The Code Is the Key (TCITK) for Year 2 expands on the foundational skills introduced in Year 1, enhancing students' understanding of English sound-spelling patterns. In just 10 minutes per day, students continue to learn how to isolate, pronounce, blend, segment and manipulate sounds while mastering additional graphemes, blends, plurals, suffixes, and contractions. Similar sounds are taught in pairs to promote accurate pronunciation and sound discrimination.

• Class Sound Dictionary
  Large flip book for recording students' words, identifying graphemes, and pronouncing and writing each sound (consumable)

• Practice Activities
  Downloadable activities for additional student practice that support decoding, segmenting, and matching sounds to known graphemes and provide practice in the context of independent writing

• Sounds & Spelling Student Cards and Teacher Chart
  Includes one A2 card and 25 student cards featuring animal mnemonics and high utility grapheme examples for each sound

• Elevate & Evaluate
  A comprehensive guide for teaching essential reading, writing, and spelling skills. It includes valid and reliable assessment (11) tools to guide instruction, track progress, and apply structured, evidence-proven practices to close literacy gaps. Flowcharts help analyse students' writing, spelling, and decoding skills for targeted support.

The Code is the Key for Year 2 has its roots in research and is evidence-proven, showing its ability to accelerate literacy achievement. 

Throughout the [Shine Literacy Project] extended study, the same pattern emerged. The evidence showed that regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or prior knowledge, this approach levelled the playing field and accelerated achievement for all students.
